Inspection
Throughout the manufacturing process, engineers carefully inspect products using both
inline and offline equipment specially aimed at troubleshooting.
MAMCO's inline vision system utilizes a series of cameras that take pictures from
which tolerances are identified. Each picture gives a pass or fail score on each
set of tolerances. The process remains continual and is used particularly in the
manufacturing floor's reel-to-reel systems.
Offline inspection departs from the inline system in that it can be accomplished
after a part is already produced. In offline inspection, either a manufacturing
employee or a robot will take a molded piece and manually place it in front of a
camera.
Both systems have been devised to quarantine products and can be programmed to
inspect for defects. Robotics have increased their presence at MAMCO, as they
tend to make processes easier and lower overall problems encountered on the
manufacturing floor.
